MARIAH Carey has fuelled speculation she is pregnant with her first child, saying “something special” is about to happen.

The singer, 39, sparked the speculation when talking of her next career move after the success of the Oscar-nominated Precious.

“I’m talking to a director about three movies,” she said.

But Mariah, married to singer Nick Cannon and rumoured to be adopting an orphan, added: “There’s also something special on the way. I can’t say anymore.”

Her appearance at the Independent Film Awards also hinted she was pregnant.

Wearing extremely high eight inch heels and an itty bitty black dress that prevented her from actually walking on her own, Carey was held up by her security guards.

“I don’t think I can do this,” she whispered.

Her figure was definitely a little fuller than normal, especially the upper half which is a common pregnancy symptom.

Mariah also refused all alcohol while at the event, drinking water throughout.

The couple has made statements in the past that they will have children together someday.
